So much fun at Headingley Music Festival

February is the season for Carnaval in Cuba, so in 2023 we did our own Yorkshire take on that, complete with fancy dress.

Sold out on a Sunday afternoon at Jazz Leeds, Seven Arts, Chapel Allerton. Great dancing in such a tiny space!

Over the years we’ve played several times at this regular salsa dance night in Saltaire. It’s always a lovely atmosphere: a great dance lesson at the start and then a whole evening of enjoyable dancing which we get to watch from our vantage point on the stage as we play.

Hola, ¿qué tal? ¿Cómo te va?
Sobre las olas (Over the waves), is an upbeat song about how lovely it is to be surrounded by people coming and going who say hello to you.

That’s something we missed a lot in lockdown so we changed the words …

Best wishes to my family at a distance, I miss all my friends who go dancing. Who can I sing with now? I want to go out and have fun, and live my life. Go away Corona

Tracionero is our lockdown take on the 1996 hit song Tracionera by Oscar D’Leon.

It starts with a simmering bolero introducing the treacherous lover (male in our case). Her heart is dying, she drank the poison of his words.

Then it switches to a wild salsa, with the echoing coro – I know that you will pay, traitor, you’ll get your comeuppance
